does anybody know anything about ipods?
i've been leaving mine in the trunk of my car while im at work and im wondering if the freezing temps killed it?
it wont turn on anymore, it wont take a charge, it wont do anything :(
i would go to the apple store to inquire about it but i dont feel like getting raped right now, i'd just as soon buy a brand new one
its a 4th gen nano, if it makes any difference
any input would be appreciated
k thx

That's really strange. Think I've lost my older iPod in the snow for a couple hours, and it worked fine afterwards. O_O Probably would be cheaper to just get a new one these days. Sorry about your luck. =/

I leave mine in the car all the time hooked to my head unit. When it gets really cold out (like below 10) I have issues the morning tring to listen to it in the car.

I would definitely think these cold temperatures would affect, and/or potentially kill your ipod. maybe not usually, but sounds like you had bad luck. Afterall, it's just a hard drive in a box. Why don't you want to take it to Apple? My experience with them has always been good. I wouldn't doubt that they just replace it for you for free. Just tell them it died.

I wouldn't think they would get killed by cold (20º isn't really cold). Besides, I doubt Apple ships those things in a heated environment. Sure a UPS/FedEx delivery truck is kinda heated, but their shipping semi-trailers are more then likely not. They probably get subjected to some cold temps in shipping to various parts of the country/world, so I doubt cold would have anything to do with it.

I have to reset my old Ipod if it hasn't been used in a while. Try to charge it for a while, then toggle the hold switch on and off a few times, then toggle the hold switch off, hold down "Menu"+"Select" for 10 seconds or so, the little Apple logo should appear, if it doesn't repeat those steps again, apparently it can take a few tries. If still nothing... take it in to Apple or run it over with your car.

Doesn't sound like iPod fail. Sounds like owner fail.

Last time I checked most electronic devices don't like the cold period and it sucks the battery life out of it. Also it can freeze it can freeze the crystal in the LIQUID crystal display.

so i called apples tech support. i decided im going to replace the battery my damn self. apparently the battery model number is top secret and they are not allowed to disclose such information over the phone. WTF! i hate apple. i dont even know why so many ppl buy apple products because they suck. and 18 months seems to be the magic number when alot of ipod batteries fail...and coincidentally my ipod is..you guessed it..18 months old!

im gonna do what this guy did...lol

Funny, I've had my iPod (first gen clickwheel model) for years now and have never had a problem with it - despite snowboarding with it (and falling on it), leaving in the car during 100 degree heat and negative temps, or dropping it a few times while working.

Sounds more like an issue with the battery not dealing with extended periods of cold.... not the technology or the brand.
