2003 Jetta Wagon sunglass holder change

Source: Volkswagen 11-25-02

In order to fulfill U.S. safety and regulation requirements, the Jetta Wagon has received increased padding for the head impact airbag supplemental restraint system as part of model year 2003. Due to this change, it is no longer possible to integrate a silicone dampened assist handle into the headliner above the driver. Therefore, model year 2003 Jetta Wagons equipped with Side Curtain Protection™ head impact airbag supplemental restraints, will contain a sunglass holder instead of a silicone dampened assist handle in the headliner above the driver. This will be 100% of Jetta Wagons built for the U.S. and any Jetta Wagon equipped with the option 4X8 (Side Curtain Protection™) in Canada. Any vehicle without the option 4X8 (Side Curtain Protection™) in Canada, will receive four silicone dampened assist handles integrated into the headliner.

Previously, all Jetta Wagons contained four silicone dampened assist handles integrated into the headliner. As of model year 2003, the Jetta Wagons will contain three silicone dampened assist handles and one sunglass holder when equipped with Side Curtain Protection™ head impact airbag supplemental restraints.
